Uther BBS interface???

Postby luddite » Sat Mar 15, 2008 2:31 am

Would it be possible to use an Uther-equipped Apple II as an ethernet-to-serial bridge? I'd like to set up an Apple II BBS, but experience has taught me that the lack of telnet access would be a real show-stopper. I thought it might be feasible to connect a pair of II's via null modem cable, have the BBS running on one and the Uther providing telnet translation on the other.
I'm sure it's more complicated than I'd like to think, but I'm just tossing out an idea here...

I think if the Apple II with the Uthernet card is strictly playing proxy I think it should be possible to make it a ethernet to serial gateway.

I don't know much about it but I noticed in the telnetd code it calls the contiki shell ... and in the confiki shell directory there is some code for a contiki serial shell. Have a look at that code perhaps that already does what you want?
